I asked them to replace the cruel and wasteful NJ beach fee system with state funds for each town to run their beach. It doesn't have to be complicated! I wrote to and spoke with Democratic officeholders from council members, mayors, assemblymembers and senators up to the last Governor and the new one.
I got nowhere.
And frankly, the Democratic leadership has failed to defend us, seemingly afraid to upset the apple cart, as if this is a time for business as usual. They won't, or can't, take the bold actions needed to stop the destruction wrought daily by Trump. Republicans have to re-assert traditional values and get back to respecting law and order. That's the way forward and out of this mess, as I see it.So i have returned to the Republican Party where I began so many years ago with my first vote for Gerald Ford. But the GOP of 2026 has lost its way. Congressional Republicans have forsaken everything they once stood for in order to avoid the wrath of the supremely corrupt con man president who threatens to "primary them." I also want to use NJ District 4's seat in Congress to propose and enact federal legislation to reform the beach replenishment program to provide
safe, free beaches. No one should have to pay to use a beach funded with federal dollars. And those dollars should be used in the best replenishment program possible, with scientifically designed sand deposits feeding offshore sand bars that provide superior durability, safety, and recreational opportunities, with potential to save money. We ask the governor and legislators to act now
to eliminate entrance fees
and make all publicly owned beaches free for everyone.
Only in NJ must you pay
to walk on the beach and enjoy the ocean water.
It is wrong to deprive the economically disadvantaged
the basic human rights of swimming and sunbathing.
It is cruel to force the poor to wait
until lifeguards have gone home,
when most drownings occur.
It is harmful to wildlife to litter the ecosystem
with lost and discarded plastic badges and wristbands.
The beach fee system
is repressive, discriminatory, and inefficient.
The state government should dedicate
a tiny sliver of its yearly budget to reimbursing
beach towns for lifeguards and maintenance.
The resulting boost to tourism revenues
from ending the aggravation and indignity

might even make the switch to free beaches pay for itself.
